We here at Smiling Hill are pleased to announce our first blogsite. We hope that family and friends will enjoy our array of family "pics" and selected adventures. In the spirit of Smiling Hill, we hope that every blog is full of ridiculous sunshine. For those interested in SH lore, the title "Smiling Hill" was the name of a family farm nestled in the rolling hills of yesteryear (sigh). Although closed years ago, may the spirit of SH open your hearts and capture your imaginations, literally.

Department of De"fence"
For all of you that said this couldn't be done, or for all of you that said it could be done but it would take awhile, or for all of you that said it could be done, within a reasonable amount of time but that it was to costly.... check out these pix!!
Fence Sitting
In this rustic cubby is a gorgeous old-meets-new gate with all the frills, including a hatch and hindge.
Don't let the dilapitated wood rot fool you, this gate is ready for months and months of marginal use.
At the crest of rolling acres of manicured lawn, this estate is framed by a romantic fence surround made with only the finest woods imported from the vast forests of Ireland.
ummm, here is the fence by the garbage.

Which is Best?
So you can tell we wrote about the birthday 4 times. It was over the course of 4 or 5 days. I was so mad becuase none of them were posting. I kept having to remember what I wrote and what was clever about the last one. Yikes! You get you see my many drafts and I think you should tell me which we should keep up on the blog. I will take the rest down next week.
Happy 1st Birthday!
I spent all this time making a beautiful 2 layer cake for Abbey. We had high hopes of excitement and glee. Before and after pictures would be so fun. We thought, "She'll love it! She'll love the chance to make a mess and eat all that sugar that we never let her have before. Cake EVERYWHERE" You can tell by her face what she thought of the cake....
This IS the before and after picture. She didn't eat any of it.
She did like opening gifts though. My kind of girl.
She had a good time despite the cake.

Happy 1st Birthday!
So I spent all this time making Abbey her own 2 layer birthday cake. We were so excited thinking, "She is going to love this! She'll get so messy and finally eat all that sugar we have been holding back on." We thought, "A great opportunity for before and After pictures" We were so wrong. Just look at her face to see what SHE was thinking. I tried everything. I gave her some frosting to taste. She liked it, I guess. Then I took some bites with my face to show her how it is done.
We moved her to the high chair thinking, "She doesn't know she is supposed to eat it" NO luck. Not one bite.
She loved the gifts though. Especially the ones that make noise. She also LOVED the books. Doesn't that say something about how good a mom I am. I mean loving books is not natural. Just think of all the PBS comercials "Read to your child 15 minutes a day.... so you don't feel like a bad parent if your child does poorly in school."
Well mission acomplished. I don't even have to read to her anymore. She does it on her own.
Well she at least likes looking at pictures.
